INTERN, MEDIA RELATIONS (SRPING 2017) - Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club (Atlanta, GA)

Here’s your chance to experience a bold and dynamic organization first hand.  The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club will be looking for passionate team players to participate in our Spring 2017 Internship Program.  The program is designed to give top candidates real-life experience in the sports and entertainment industry, in addition to providing educational and networking opportunities.  Educational components include interactive workshops, executive speaker series and job shadow opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: 

Non-Game Days:

  • Assist with editing of team publications, press releases and collateral materials
  • Assist with writing and editing of game notes
  • Compile newspaper clippings archive
  • Create and distribute season and single game credentials for media, visiting team and organization
  • Prepare and distribute pregame packets for the visiting team and media
  • On occasion accompany players on community/media relations events
  • Handle administrative responsibilities, including processing confidential reports, tracking deadlines, distributing department mail, managing purchase requests and taking meeting notes
  • Assist with media availabilities and player interviews at practice and shoot around
  • Contribute to the Hawks’ “Seasonal Media Guide” and “Playoff Media Guide”
  • Assist with media tracking and daily clips distribution as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Game Days:

  • Create and place media seating cards and seating charts throughout the arena
  • Complete creating single game credentials for the upcoming game
  • Complete the Next Opponent packets
  • Assist with updating the game notes
  • Send the Scouts e-mail and excel sheet to the Basketball Operations Department
  • Update and send the LED e-mail about where the Hawks rank statistically to Game Operations Department
  • Prep the game notes for next game
  • Manage press entrance prior to tipoff
  • Distribute stats and other materials to media in game
  • Assist with postgame notes and quotes
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The spring semester Internship Program will run from January through April (15 weeks)

Chicago Sky Community Relations & Operations Internship (Winter/Spring) - Chicago Sky (Skokie, IL)

The Community Relations & Operations Interns will gain hands-on experience through planning and implementing community events / activities, membership events and grassroots marketing activities with a goal of driving trial and lead generation.  

Interns will also work all Sky home games and assist with implementation of game operations and community activities in-arena.  Interns will also assist with day to day operation of the team retail function, community donation program, Sky Cares silent auctions and may also participate in the team's 50/50 Charitable fundraising on game days.

Position Purpose

This position assists the duties of the facilities department. The candidate will work very closely on the day-to-day operations, strategies and objectives of the department. The job includes some weekend work.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide tours to fans, prospects, members and other various groups of both the Target Center and Mayo Clinic Square.
  2. Set up and take down for events at Mayo Clinic Square. Be onsite for the event as needed
  3. Coordinate delivery of equipment or onsite contract workers at Mayo Clinic Square
  4. Track inventory of building supplies
  5. Assist with both preventative and routine maintenance of equipment at Mayo Clinic Square
  6. Coordinate staff, fan, and worker engagement regarding Target Center
  7. Assist in creating materials for presentations, including but not limited to Power Point  
  8. Attend and assist coordination of all Facility Department events
  9. Other duties as assigned

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. Office hours are typically 8:00 AM-5:00PM Monday-Friday. In addition to working office hours’ staff are required to work all Timberwolves and Lynx home games, in addition to external events including but not limited to: charity and networking events. Work is generally sedentary in nature. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. This job also operates in a sports arena, which includes bleachers/steps

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee frequently is required to remain in a stationary position, and may operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer and telephone. Staff will frequently ascend and descend bleachers/steps and traverse around the arena and office facility. Staff may occasionally move boxes of merchandise/ rewards for members weighing up to 30 pounds.

Job Purpose

To assist the Phoenix Suns front office staff with day-to-day operations including scouting credential requests, maintaining basketball operations databases, background research and player analysis, tracking Suns’ draft right’s held prospects, updating player magnets, providing transportation for players, scouting small college and under the radar prospects, and assisting with administrative needs. Additionally, assist in salary cap management and planning, player and team statistical analysis and various projects as assigned.

Primary (Essential) Duties

  • Create video edits of potential trade and free agent targets incorporating advanced stats and analytics
  • Assist in maintaining the Suns scouting database
  • Assist in updating documents and boards regarding player information
  • Update staff on draft prospect performance through daily emails
  • Study and chronical NBA player injuries
  • Perform studies and analysis of D-League players/teams
  • Create and edit various documents as needed
  • Assist the video department with various projects
  • Assist with administrative needs (i.e. scheduling, filing, generating daily reports, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
