Hornets Sports & Entertainment seeks a Finance intern.

The Finance Department at Hornets Sports and Entertainment has seven members.  The department is responsible for the accounting and finance functions of a holding company which includes, among other legal and accounting entities, a National Basketball Team and the Time Warner Cable Arena. Also associated with the team is a 401(k) benefit plan and a not-for-profit organization. 

While some of the tasks the intern will face might be routine, the Department will have needs the intern can fill that provide insight into the "nuts and bolts" of how the organization works. Just as important, the department members will be glad to share their experiences working in sports and entertainment.

  • Candidates should be available for 8 to 12 weeks
  • Rigor, attention to detail, and organization are keys to success
  • Must display a positive attitude to conform to the casual enviroment while demonstrating respect for all
  • Share our curiosity for the business and our desire to positively influence the business
  • Assist with the financial statement audit by preparing financial schedules to support the face statements or footnotes.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax information for various entities and jurisdictions
  • Update excel workbooks that summarize information such as insurance policies or sponsorship contracts.
  • Assist with actual vs. budget comparisons
  • Assist finance members with developing detailed budgets based upon discussions with various department heads
  • Convert trial balance information into management reports
  • Record routine cash transactions in the cash management subledger and post the related entries to the general ledger
  • Perform rollforwards and reconciliations. Rollforwards and reconciliations to include cash, fixed assets, amounts payable to the city of Charlotte, and amounts payable to concert promoters.

Pursuit of a Finance, Accounting, or a related degree is preferred.

This is a non-paid internship and is requiring the individual to receive college credit. The candidate should be, but not limited to, a Junior or Senior.

POSITION OVERVIEW

• Assist the group event coordinators with the servicing and sale of any group tickets, birthday party packages, programs and promotional ticket packages to a Hornets or Arena event.
• Assist with the planning and execution of group events

This internship requires a commitment to assist staff during Hornets games and be able to be in the office 20-40 hours a week.

• Responsible for working at all Hornets home games, staffing the Hornets Arena Will Call, Guaranteed Giveaways table, Guest Service Windows, and/or Season Ticket Holder booth on the concourse as needs dictate
• Perform and review surveys of season ticket holders.
• Work with Game Operations and all other game staffs with the execution of improvements to the game day experience for all Premium Seat Holders.

The Chicago Sky is seeking former basketball players that will participate in all Chicago Sky youth basketball marketing and sales efforts for the Spring of 2015. The position will report directly to the Youth Basketball Specialist. While this is an unpaid internship, there may be opportunities to expand into a part-time or full-time position in the future. INTERNSHIP (Spring 2015): Senior Sales - Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics (Washington, DC)

Monumental Sports & Entertainment owns and operates three professional sports teams: the NBA's Washington Wizards, the NHL's Washington Capitals, and the WNBA's Washington Mystics.  Monumental, which merged Lincoln Holdings and Washington Sports & Entertainment on June 10, 2010, also owns and operates Verizon Center, the premier sports and entertainment venue in Washington, D.C.  Additionally, the group operates Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the Capitals' state-of-the-art training facility in Arlington, Va., and George Mason University's Patriot Center, located in Fairfax, Va.


Responsibilities:

  • Database Management:
    • Input assigned leads into Salesforce database
    • Update/manage current accounts
    • Collaborate with senior representatives on personal databases
  • Event and Gameday Staffing:
    • Complete game night responsibilities at Washington Wizards events and Washington Mystics games– Ex. Staff sales tables, promotional fulfillment, gameday service & prospecting events, etc.
    • Participate in grassroots marketing and other networking events in DC area
    • Assist with in-game lead generation programs
  • Sales Prospecting:
    • Assist representatives in corporate research for B2B sales
    • Make outbound phone calls to past ticket sales clients on behalf of senior representatives
    • Make introductory phone calls to potential ticket buyers prospecting all MSE properties
  • Sports Career:
    • Work with senior sales representatives on sales training, sales calls, in-arena appointments, etc.
    • Learn all aspects of the sales process within the ticket sales department.
    • Develop relationships and network with senior level executives at Monumental Sports
    • Gain exposure to other business operations departments within MSE
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Compile and organize client and prospect databases
    • Research other professional sports teams ticket sales campaigns to determine ‘best practices’
    • Assist with direct mail and customer outreach campaigns
    • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week
  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student receiving credit for the internship in the Spring 2015 Semester

  • Assist Dance Team Manager with Wizard Girls:
    • Updating database
    • Website content maintenance : blogs, photo galleries, videos
    • Social Media : ensure photos, posts, and tweets are consistent with Wizards and Mystics brand
    • Assist with coordination & booking of appearances and events involving Wizard Girls
  • Assist Director of Marketing with Alumni Association:
    • Updating database
    • Website content maintenance : photo galleries, videos, upcoming appearances
    • Assist with bi-weekly alumni newsletter
    • Assist with coordination/logistics of appearances and events involving alumni
  • Assist with creation of collateral including flyers, signage, posters for alumni and Wizard Girls events as needed
  • Research opportunities for revenue growth: appearances, clinics, golf tournaments
  • Provide recap of all events attended during season

Secondary Responsibilities – Game Days:

  • Assist with Wizard Girls on themed game nights – concourse table, suite/seat visits, performances on-court

Essential requirements:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student in good academic standing
  • Previous Marketing experience a plus, but not required
  • Team player; excellent communication skills; creative
