Position Summary

Media Relations interns have the opportunity to see the business side of sports marketing first hand for the Austin Toros. The Austin Toros are a part of the NBA Development League, the NBA’s minor league system. The Austin Toros are directly affiliated, owned, and operated by the San Antonio Spurs. Interns have the opportunity to work directly with the Austin Toros, dealing with various aspects of the day to day operation of the Team, such as public relations, community events, game nights and general office duties. Internships are paid positions (minimum wage), but are not guaranteed employment once the internship is completed.

  • Assist Media Relations Manager with public relations duties
    • Example – Survey and research trends in the sports industry
    • Example – Assist with efforts to increase awareness of the Austin Toros brand and image
    • Example – Manage and update list of Austin media outlets
    • Example- Develop copy for press releases and media guides
    • Example- Manage Austin Toros social media sites such as, but not limited to Facebook and Twitter
    • Example- Assist with website updates and maintenance
    • Example- Assist with game day media responsibilities. Attendance at ALL home games is mandatory.
  • Attending and assisting with set up of select community events.
    • Example- Attend and assist with set up of community events
    • Example- Coordinate participation in community events with non-profits, schools and other youth and sports organizations

POSITION SUMMARY:

Chicago Sky Ticket Sales & Services Internship - Chicago Sky (Skokie, IL)

The Chicago Sky is seeking excited, outgoing, and dedicated candidates that will interact with the general public while being an integral part of ongoing ticket sales efforts. The sales intern will be a vital part of assisting the Sky sales team in all aspects of selling, fulfilling and executing sales initiatives. The position will gain hands-on experience in sales and marketing through implementing and planning off season activities including theme related nights. Chicago Sky Youth Basketball Internship - Chicago Sky (Skokie, IL)

The Chicago Sky is seeking former basketball players that will participate in all Chicago Sky youth basketball marketing and sales efforts. The position will report directly to the Youth Basketball Specialist. While this is an unpaid internship, there may be opportunities to expand into a part-time or full-time position in the future. Assist the Houston Rockets front office in answering fundamental basketball questions using the best data sets in the game.  Questions are approached using a variety of mathematical and computational tools combined with basketball knowledge and intuition.  Premium is placed on actionable and timely analysis. Position is an excellent opportunity for those considering a career in the NBA, sports or data analysis. QUALIFICATIONS:
-Experience with varied programming languages, particularly SQL

-Experience with large data sets is an advantage, as is experience with scripting languages.

Interns in Game Operations will assist in the coordination of talent bookings for Pacers and/or Fever home games; assist with the Pacers and Fever mascots on their appearances; assist with invoicing and contracts as necessary for appearances and talent bookings; and assist in coordination and on-floor execution of game timeouts. contests, game acticities and events prior to, during, and after games.

  • Attend all Game Operations meetings and Marketing meetings.  Interns will be given various assignments and projects to work on including, but not limited to, interacting and exchanging information with other NBA and WNBA teams.
  • Perform general office duties as assigned.

The Los Angeles Clippers Strength and Conditioning Staff are looking to hire an intern for the duration of the 2014-2015 season, approximately October 2014- June 2015. We are looking for graduate or undergraduate students who are eligible to receive course credit for the entire duration of the internship.  Texas Legends Broadcast/ Video Production Internship

Responsibilities:

- Effectively deploy audio and video cabling and equipment for timely and flawless execution of any event requiring technical services
- Operate any and all technical video and audio equipment needed
- Set up, install, maintain and manage all portable multimedia equipment
- Perform routine maintenance to AV equipment.
- Operation of audio and sound system technology for events and press conferences
- Prepare, set and test all AV equipment ahead of events start time to ensure all proper functionality
- Broadcast production and editing (spots, billboards, VO, etc…)
- Assist in video shoots as Production Assistant, Camera Op, Audio, etc.
- Assist in logging and organizing video footage
- Assist with the development and fulfillment of in-game entertainment elements
- Assist with Archiving Footage
- Other Audio/Video duties as assigned

Criteria/Requirements

- Working knowledge of audio systems, portable audio setups, PC and Mac operating systems, video cameras, and wireless microphones.
- Familiar with cable pulling and cable management.
- Good communication, time management, project management and organizational skills a must.
- Attention to detail and experience working in a team oriented environment required.
- Must be able to troubleshoot technical issues under pressure
- Must possess a strong technical background
- Must possess a “self-starter”, entrepreneurial personality
- Must have aptitude to function in a sometimes repetitive environment

Technical knowledge of the following are a major plus: Microsoft Word & Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, General Production Equipment (Audio Equipment, Production Lights, Backdrops, etc.)

Digital Content Internship - Utah Jazz (Salt Lake City, UT)

The Utah Jazz Digital Content Intern will assist in the creation/archival of content for Utah Jazz digital properties.  Intern will be required to provide written content as well as edit and archive game highlights and photos.  This is a paid internship that will work for the length of the Jazz season.  Champion the company’s Mission and Vision, and model the company Values.

Specific Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Protect the moral, legal and financial well-being of the Company
  • Continually teach associates new and better ways of doing business with and emphasis on STEWARDSHIP, ACCOUNTABILITY, LEADERSHIP and GUEST SERVICE.
  • Support the digital staff with any content related assignments
  • Complete assignments on deadline
  • Work 15-20/week
  • Intern will be representing the Jazz so it’s imperative to conduct oneself professionally at all times

Knowledge and Skills

  • Communication/Journalism student preferred
  • In-depth sports and basketball knowledge
  • Experience writing news articles, features and editorial pieces
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Experience conducting interviews and/or being a part of media interview sessions
  • Video editing experience preferred
  • Experience working with Photoshop preferred
  • Must be able to work some nights and weekends
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background and drug screening

Physical Demands

Partnership Intern (Fall 2014) - WNBA Tulsa Shock (Tulsa, OK)

Partnership Intern 

Tulsa Pro Hoops, host organization of the WNBA's Tulsa Shock, is currently recruiting Partnership Department interns, known as Partnership Interns, for the upcoming 2014 Fall semester. This internship offers the opportunity to work with a diverse group of experienced staff members in a fast-paced, challenging environment. We are looking for hard-working, organized, dedicated individuals with a team player attitude and the desire to proactively take on responsibility throughout the fall semester. 

Internship Information

The internship takes place in the Tulsa Shock office located in downtown Tulsa. Partnership Interns support various staff members in areas related to partnership partners, events and creative sales planning, and marketing. These interns support the partnership coordinator with partnership sales coordination, prospect research, keeping and updating prospecting lists, working on in-arena activations and set up, inventory tracking, website partnership promotion updates, photography and preparing partnership recap summaries.

Additionally, the fall semester internship includes but not limited to:

Customer Service – Interns interact with current partners, prospective customers, and sales staff by phone and in person. Excellent telephone communication skills are required. Interns are required to fulfill partnership activations and promotions during the season. At no time during the internship are interns expected to solicit sponsorship sales.

Intern Projects – Interns work on various team projects 15– 40 hours per week. Projects include corporate research, creating and maintaining corporate partner photo libraries, activation fulfillment set-up, set-up of partnership functions and needs at BOK Center, and other community activities during the fall. Also, interns will be taught how to create and assist with corporate sponsorship PowerPoint proposals.

This is a part-time (15-40 hours per week) unpaid internship for college credit. Fall internships begin August 2014 and end December 2014. Interns are required to live in the Tulsa area for the duration of the internship or able to commute to the Tulsa office in a timely manner. Current college students in their freshman to senior years and recent college graduates may apply. Current college students chosen for the internship program may use the internship to receive college credit hours, if the college allows.

Characteristics of Ideal Candidates
Candidates should be detail-oriented, able to handle multiple projects, able to prioritize their time and be comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment. Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel and strong organizational skills are a must. Excellent oral and written communication skills are important due to the significant number of phone calls and questions interns are required to handle. Knowledge about the game of basketball is not required.
