Position overview

The Charlotte Hornets are looking to hire Analysts and/or Software Developers to build and improve on existing technological solutions for the front office and coaching staff. The primary focus will be on creating mobile and web-based software solutions for use in player evaluation, salary cap analysis, and game strategy. As a part of the Basketball Operations Department, developers will work with the Analytics team in support of the General Manager, coaching staff, and scouting department. Experience in the sports industry is not required, but applicants must be passionate about basketball.

The Houston Rockets is looking to add a talented new member to the Basketball Operations team. This person will work intimately with the entire operations team to organize basketball data, build software tools, and analyze basketball games. People who hate coding need not apply, though the job could easily be a fit for talented data scientists, software engineers, forecasters, web developers, statisticians, DBAs, machine learning experts, etc. Experience in basketball is not required; learning easily is. Much of the work is in SQL, so interested applicants should have either tangible SQL experience or a deep understanding of programming combined with an appetite to learn SQL quickly. Nimbleness of mind is key, as is the candidate's ability to fit into an energetic, passionate work environment in Houston.


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in related field
  • Experience with varied programming languages, particularly SQL

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct a comprehensive assessment of all athletes, identifying strengths and weaknesses in the areas of Propioception, Flexibility, Power and Strength
• Develop and supervise an individual program to address the above weaknesses
• Monitor each of the athletes’ performance in all areas closely and continuously throughout the season
• Make necessary modifications to individual training programs to sustain improvement
• Create and conduct a proper team static/dynamic flexibility program
• Supervise all player weightlifting and conditioning programs
• Conduct daily, or as necessary, weightlifting and conditioning programs both at home and on the road
• Produce daily and bi-monthly weightlifting / conditioning progress reports
• Administer and supervise nutrition plans for players
• Work closely with team trainer to ensure all strength and conditioning needs of each player are being satisfied

Special Requirements:
• Must be a US legal resident
• B.S. degree in Exercise Science or related field
• Must have a valid / current certification from a recognized organization (Preference will be applied to candidates with a C.S.C.S. certification or National Academy of Sports Medicine certification – NASM)

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to add talented new developers, software engineers, statistical analysts, and data scientists to the team. Basketball analysts will work as a part of the front office and collaborate extensively with the entire basketball operations department including President and GM Sam Hinkie. Experience in basketball is not required; analytical talent and learning easily is. The Sixers are looking for both permanent employees and interns. Most basketball analysts will work in our basketball operations office in Philadelphia but other arrangements may be possible.

AREAS OF RESPONISBILITIES (include but are not limited to)

 The Tulsa Shock seeks energetic individuals to aid members of the Basketball Operations staff in the following areas:

Video Intern

Description: Assist with day to day operations of the Video department including: equipment set up, camera operation during practice, workouts, and special assignments, downloading video (digitize or capture).  Working knowledge of Sportstec (computer-based editing software), Synergy Sports, Fast Draw and Fast Scout preferred.  Provide support to coaches and staff as needed.

Additional responsibilities:: Assist Equipment Manager with all duties associated with department including: preparing lockers, washing/folding laundry, set-up/break-down before and after practice and games, helping manage equipment inventory, packing equipment for road trips, assist at practice as needed.  Works with visiting basketball teams to coordinate scheduling of practice times, and assists visiting teams with game day needs, such as pre-game meals.  Assist with managing Tulsa Shock Ball Kid program. Provide support to coaches and staff as needed.

Qualifications and EXPERIENCE

Pursuing a degree in sports management/sports administration/exercise science/physical education, or the desire to pursue a career in the sports industry preferred. 

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Must be an effective communicator who can work efficiently in both independent and collaborative situations in a fast-paced environment.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Ability to work on projects and maintain confidential information.

Willingness to work long hours.

Summer 2015 Basketball Operations Internship – Tulsa Shock (Tulsa, OK)

The Tulsa Shock seeks an energetic individual to support members of the Basketball Operations staff with daily team operations and logistics.

Provide administrative support to Tulsa Basketball Operations staff.
• Assist BBOps equipment manager and staff with various department related projects.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of programs is required along with a general understanding of basketball.
• Work with the Shock Video Coordinator/Operations Manager to maintain the inventory and working condition of all Shock equipment including, but not limited to uniforms and practice gear.
• Must be able to assist staff during home games and practices and work in a face paced environment.
• Ability to lift at least 50lbs and have a valid driver's license.
• Maintain a neat and organized workspace

**Other duties as assigned by coaching staff or executive staff.
