Basketball Operations Systems Developer - Charlotte Bobcats (Charlotte, NC)

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Basketball Operations System Developer will collect and import data to our database, check data, and field requests from the Basketball Operations staff.  This position will be instrumental in molding and improving our database to assist the staff in player personnel and coaching efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Respond to data and database requests from the front office.
• Build user-friendly software tools for use by the basketball operations staff.
• Accumulate data from various sources to input and organize into our system to assist the basketball operations staff with decisions.
• Check and clean data for accuracy and import to our database.
• Provide ideas and play a key role in making our database industry-best.
• Ability to multi-task and respond to a variety of requests in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned by manager.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITIES
(To perform the job successfully, the candidate should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this job.)

• Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree is a plus) in computer science or related field with focus on programming from an accredited college or university.
• Strong coding skills with experience in SQL, C#, and Visual Basic; experience with ASP.NET is a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with basketball stats and modern advanced statistics and knowledge of basketball stats resources are preferred but not required.
• Desire to help build fantastic tools to improve our understanding of the game and improve our decision making.
• Self-starter with an ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities
• Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
• Presents self in professional manner and has the ability to interact with all levels of organization and outside contacts.
• Strong project management skills.

Basketball Operations Quantitative Analyst - Charlotte Bobcats (Charlotte, NC)

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Basketball Operations Quantitative Analyst will evaluate and organize basketball data, analyze basketball games, and build software tools.  Position will work with the Manager, Basketball Analytics to provide statistical and technological solutions for use in player personnel and coaching efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design and perform rigorous statistical analyses in support of Basketball Operations decision making; analyses may include prediction of future player performance, quantification of player contributions to team performance, and assessment of team/player matchups for use in game preparation.
• Produce stats-based reports for the front office and coaching staff.
• Check data, support data integration into our database, and provide ideas to improve our database.
• Perform exploratory analysis of new data sources to assess data quality and applicability in Basketball Operations decision making.
• Keep abreast of latest developments and advances in sports analytics through research papers, blogs, and conferences.
• Other duties as assigned by manager.

Basketball Operations Analyst - Houston Rockets (Houston, TX)

Department: Basketball Operations

Type: Full-Time

Reports to: Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations

The Houston Rockets front office is looking to add a talented new member to the team. This person will work intimately with the entire front office, including GM Daryl Morey, to organize basketball data, build software tools, and analyze basketball games. People who hate coding need not apply, though the job could easily be a fit for talented data scientists, software engineers, forecasters, web developers, statisticians, DBAs, machine learning experts, etc. Experience in basketball is not required; learning easily is. Much of the work is in SQL, so interested applicants should have either tangible SQL experience or a deep understanding of programming combined with an appetite to learn SQL quickly. Nimbleness of mind is key, as is the candidate's ability to fit into an energetic, passionate work environment in Houston. The position reports to the EVP of Basketball Operations.QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Experience with varied programming languages, particularly SQL
     
  • Experience with statistics and commonly used statistics packages, econometrics, data visualization, and basketball analytics are desirable.
     
  • Background in mathematical or computational field are desirable but not required.
     
  • Experience with large data sets is an advantage, as is experience with scripting languages
     
  • Interest in and familiarity of basketball and terminology
