Position overview

The Charlotte Hornets are looking to hire Analysts and/or Software Developers to build and improve on existing technological solutions for the front office and coaching staff. The primary focus will be on creating mobile and web-based software solutions for use in player evaluation, salary cap analysis, and game strategy. As a part of the Basketball Operations Department, developers will work with the Analytics team in support of the General Manager, coaching staff, and scouting department. Experience in the sports industry is not required, but applicants must be passionate about basketball.

NBA Referee Development Program - NBA (New York, NY)

Program Overview:

The Referee Development Program is not only a world class experience, but a once in a lifetime opportunity that equips Referee Operations Officiating Trainees with the skills necessary to pursue a career as a referee in the NBA, WNBA, or D-League. This immersion based development experience places recent college graduates, former professional players and aspiring referees at the forefront of the game, allowing them to work assignments in the Referee Operations department while officiating games on the high school and college level.

During a two month intensive orientation, Trainees will learn the fundamentals of refereeing by supporting referee development, shadowing current referees at various summer camps, providing administrative support for event preparations, as well as participating in training courses and speaker series designed uniquely for the Referee Development Program.

At the conclusion of orientation, Trainees will gain on-court experience as middle school or high school referees through partnerships with local referee associations. Additionally, Trainees will rotate through three areas of the business, typically in three month work assignments, assisting with high priority projects and initiatives aligned with the League’s strategic priorities. Referee Analytics
Replay Center
Referee Development

Upon successful completion of the rotational portion of the program, Trainees will be placed in a functional area based on the NBA’s business needs, with consideration of Trainee performance. Following placement, Trainees will be able to put their knowledge and skills to the test at the NBA D-League Tryout.

Following the NBA D-League Tryout, Trainees will be entered into the Referee Camp System. A performance-based tiered paradigm, this system allows Trainees to participate in a collection of camps, beginning at the grassroots level and ending with elite level camps. Leveraging the NBA’s partnership with the NCAA, Trainees will start officiating DII and/or DIII games. During their time working through the camp system and refereeing high school or college games, Trainees will continue work as a regular employee in their designated functional area.

Professional Development:

The Referee Development Program includes a robust curriculum of professional development activities. The program tips off with an in-depth orientation that builds the foundational skills required for success in the workplace and as an elite referee. Throughout the program, Trainees will receive additional training to grow high value professional skills such as relationship building and conflict resolution. Trainees will complete several self-assessments (e.g. DiSC, Emotional Intelligence) and receive strategic coaching that identifies strengths and areas of development. Trainees will also attend referee speaker sessions and panel discussions geared towards technical and educational development.

Candidate Requirements:

A superior level of basketball knowledge and basic understanding of officiating terminology is required. Candidates must be in excellent academic standing and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, candidates should possess demonstrable leadership skills through relevant extracurricular activities, along with meaningful, business-related internship or other experience.

Player/Basketball Operations: Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapy/Doctor
Head Athletic Trainer New York Liberty - New York Liberty (Tarrytown, NY)

The Head Athletic Trainer for the New York Liberty of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) coordinates the athletic training, strength and conditioning, and overall sports performance and wellness needs of Liberty players.

This position will play a central role in the on court product for the Liberty, serving in a function to prevent injuries as well as treat them.  The Head Athletic Trainer will be responsible for coordination and administration of all player health care in collaboration with the team physician(s) and consulting physicians, working closely and communicating with the Head Coach. 

The individual shall create an environment of trust and care which encourages athletes to engage in their overall health in order to reduce or eliminate behaviors and actions that contribute to the incidence of injury and illness while also enhancing overall performance.

  • Provides expert athletic training services to prevent, treat and rehabilitate athletic injuries and related health conditions sustained by NY Liberty players
  • Coordinate the provision of services with the team physicians and other medical service providers as needed. Includes oversight of all medical records, physical examinations and evaluations, emergency care actions and other care protocols.
  • Collaborate on all strength and conditioning activities, including the development of player specific programs and daily team warm-up activities
  • Supervise the assistant athletic training staff, providing direction and overall professional development
  • Communicate effectively with Head Coach and executive basketball staff to maximize team performance while being mindful of health issues and concerns
  • Collaborate with nutritionist and other resources to educate players and empower them to make positive and effective diet and supplement choices
  • Manage all insurance claim processing and follow-up, league mandated drug testing and education, concussion protocol assessments, and other athletic training related tasks as needed.
  • Recommend the procurement and maintain inventory of all athletic training and sports performance supplies and equipment
  • Oversee the management of the practice facility locker room and the game day locker room, in addition to management of game day locker room attendants and ball kids
  • Manage all team travel preparation and baggage logistics in coordination with the Manager of Basketball Operations
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred
  • ATC mandatory
  • 5-7 years of major Division 1 or professional experience

  • ABPTS certification
  • CSCS certification
  • Experience with women’s basketball or women’s sports
