Analytics Systems Developer - Detroit Pistons / Palace Sports & Entertainment (Auburn Hills, MI)

SUMMARY

As the Analytics Systems Developer, you will work exclusively for the Pistons’ Basketball Operations department in the development of basketball analytics data and software solutions. This position will report to the Assistant General Manager – Salary Cap & Analytics, and will provide a fast-paced, collaborative environment in which to innovate across all aspects of basketball operations.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Working closely with basketball operations to design and create new statistical and reporting services.
  • Maintaining and extending the team’s existing data and analytics infrastructure.
  • Managing and automating the ingestion of disparate data from a wide range of sources.
  • Responding to ad-hoc requests from both the basketball operations department and coaching staff.
  • Collaborating effectively on team projects and work autonomously on individual work as appropriate.
  • Maintaining high level knowledge of current advanced stats and future trends in NBA analytics.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university, with a focus on programming.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong SQL programming skills; significant preference given to applicants with at least two years of working experience in related programming/analysis field.
  • Strong programming skills in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Perl, Ruby).
  • Working knowledge of at least one compiled language (C# preferred).
  • Experience conducting analysis on large data sets via statistical forecasting and analysis software is desirable (e.g., R, Stata).
  • Data visualization expertise is an advantage, but not required.
  • Ability to work long/flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Player/Basketball Operations: Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapy/Doctor
Head Athletic Trainer - Maine Red Claws (Portland, ME)

REPORTS TO

  • Head Coach (Maine Red Claws)
  • Head Athletic Trainer (Boston Celtics)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide injury evaluation, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for team athletes. 
  • Coordinate with physicians/medical personnel on care of players as well as incoming player physicals.
  • Injury reporting and documentation, maintenance of medical charts
  • Taking inventory, ordering, and restocking clinical and clerical supplies 
  • Maintenance and upkeep of the athletic training room and other sites as designated
  • Keeping up with continued education and maintaining good standing with N.A.T.A Board of Certification
  • Coordinating team travel including flights, hotel and rental vehicle reservations as well as team itineraries and visiting team accommodations
  • Managing all team apparel and equipment
  • Supervising and delegating basketball operation related duties for basketball operation interns day to day and team attendants (ball kids) during game nights
  • Organizing and managing team locker room, coaches office, visiting team locker room and other facilities and coordinating this with venue staff
  • Coordinating day to day transportation for players
  • Assisting players with league human resource paperwork
  • Facilitating league required drug testing and keeping the team and players in compliance with the league's policies and procedures
  • Assisting Head Coach with team schedule
  • Other duties as specified by the Team President and/or Head Coach 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Appropriate education, training and certification with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/experience
  • Experience as a certified athletic trainer in competitive athletic environment
  • Proven ability to meet multiple demands in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment
  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Comfort working in a complex, dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Excellent managerial and administrative skills
  • Good standing with N.A.T.A. board
  • Must reside in Portland Maine from October until May

PREFERRED

  • Master Degree (or significant progress toward degree) in related field
  • Additional related education and training such as strength and conditioning certifications (NSCA, NASM) 2 years experience, including graduate assistantship
  • Additional experience as a certified athletic trainer in competitive athletics in professional basketball or professional sports in general
  • Experience with equipment management
  • Experience in administering strength and conditioning programs with athletes

Temporary Statistical Analyst - New York Knicks (Tarrytown, NY)

Responsibilities:

The Knicks’ Statistical Analyst will collaborate closely with front office and coaching staff on analytics-based projects covering a variety of basketball, health, and front office topics. This role will require a quick-learning individual with knowledge of statistical analysis and a foundational understanding of basketball. The analyst will report directly to the Director of Analytics, and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

–    Primarily responsibility is help with data collection and organization. Various types of statistical analysis of this data will also be performed

–    Ability to function in a fast paced environment, handling multiple projects simultaneously and adhering to deadlines. 

–    Ability to work unsupervised and to function both independently and as a team member

–    Availability to work flexible hours including nights (Knicks Games).

?      Game Day/in-arena setup, maintenance and breakdown of computer, video/stats systems.

–    Professional demeanor, organized and detail oriented

–    They must also be able to commute to Tarrytown, NY and Madison Square Garden, NYC when required.

*This position will work October through June.

Qualifications:

Education:

–    4-year college degree, preferably in statistics, mathematics or similar advanced qualitative degree

Skills:

–    Excellent computer skills with a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products especially Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, formulas, etc.).

–    Knowledge of database software a plus (UniVerse, SQL, Microsoft Access).

–    Experience with advanced statistical techniques, including linear regression, logistic regression, non-linear regression, k-means clustering, and experiment design

Game Night IDS Statistician - Texas Legends (Frisco, TX)

The Texas Legends of the NBA Development League is searching for game night IDS Statisticians and clock crew. These individuals would need to both understand the game of basketball and also be technically savvy. The NBA Development League uses IDS Statistician equipment which is comprised of a group of touch screen computers that send the live data, which the statistician inputs, to the website for viewers at home and generate box scores throughout the game. This is a game-day seasonal position.

RESPONSIBILITIES : (Including but Not Limited to):

·         Arrive 2 hours before tip-off

·         Oversee pre-game setup of all stats equipment

·         Compare pre-game input of game officials, rosters, etc.

·         Communicate each game with NBA IDS Help Desk

·         Input all stats and information throughout the entire game

·         Have clear understanding of the clock system and its functions

·         Validate all stats throughout the game with IDS program and Official Scorer to ensure 100%      accuracy

·         Submit all final game files and documents to IDS Help Desk and Team P.R. Director

·         Stay after the closing of each game to insure stats were sent to appropriate affiliations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         NBA IDS Statistical Training

·         Must work well with computers and the clock system

·         Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure

·         Must understand the game of basketball and the rules and regulations of the NBA

·         Previous stat/clock experience with professional, college or high school teams required.

·         Must be available to work on nights and weekends

·         Must clear NBA clearinghouse (background check)

·         Must be able to work professionally with referees, coaches and players

·         Must be able to take direction and apply directions quickly and effectively

COMPENSATION: TBD (per game compensation)

GENERAL NOTES:  The Texas Legends are the proud affiliate of the 2011 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks and play all home games at the Dr. Pepper Center located in Frisco, Texas.

Video Coordinator - Texas Legends (Frisco, TX)

The Texas Legends are looking to add a new member to the basketball staff.  This volunteer position will work intimately with the coaching staff and front office, assisting with various duties regarding film, game edits, and practice sessions.

A working knowledge of the game of basketball and video editing experience is required.  Critical to the job will be proficiency in basketball software platforms including Synergy Sports and FastDraw/FastScout Technologies.  Experience working on a professional or college basketball staff is encouraged.
