Player/Basketball Operations: Statistics
Coordinator, Basketball Analytics - Utah Jazz (Salt Lake City, UT)

Job Summary:

The Utah Jazz is searching for a Coordinator, Basketball Analytics to assist and execute various statistical analyses in support of front office decision makers.

Primary Duties:

  • Design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. as dictated by front office and basketball operations staff.
  • Hire and supervise Basketball Analytics Interns.
  • Perform exploratory analysis to evaluate data quality and applicability in decision making process.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of analytics and general knowledge of basketball terminology.
  • Knowledge and working experience with leading basketball data providers (Second Spectrum, SportVU, Synergy Sports Tech, NBA Stats, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and machine learning application (e.g. Regression, Clustering, etc.) preferred. Knowledge of data mining techniques and understanding of data warehousing concepts preferred.
  • Open to learning new programming languages (SQL), data mining and data visualization techniques.
  • Proficiency in various programming languages, particularly statistical programming.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s or higher preferred.
  • Experience working and interacting in a corporate environment.
  • Ability to learn, unlearn, and re-learn emerging technologies.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both written and verbally
  • This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate and assess
  • The person must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • This person must be able to lift 20 lbs.

Facility Operations/Security: Food/Beverage Management
Executive Chef - Utah Jazz (Salt Lake City, UT)

The Utah Jazz are seeking an Executive Performance Nutrition Chef for our team. This position is hired through Levy Restaurants – the food and beverage provider for Vivint Smart Home Arena – but all primary responsibilities will be for Basketball Operations. We are looking for an experienced person with proven ability to prepare high-quality foods and apply the principles of performance nutrition to fuel professional athletes.

Primary Responsibilities:

·         Organize, coordinate, prepare, and serve various meals to the Utah Jazz players, coaches and basketball operations staff. Up to 15 players, 10 coaches and 25 staff (approximate).

·         Meals will include breakfast and lunch at the practice facility and pre-game and post-game meals at the Arena.

·         Coordinate family room food service on game nights.

·         Could include organizing and coordinating catering for team charter on outbound flights.

·         Ensure that the food served is top quality and nutritious, made from scratch, minimally processed, and organic when available.

·         Engage the Jazz players in the meal planning process where possible, to allow some ownership of their personal nutrition and to promote healthy eating habits.

·         Will have a lot of creative control over the menu and will work with the trainers, coaching staff, and players of the team to establish and fulfill specific dietary goals both on an individual and team basis.

·         Coordinate with sports nutritionist to develop and implement a nutrition education program to be delivered to the players.

·         Source food, determine what to order, manage inventory. May do ordering yourself or may work through existing food services department. Best option still to be determined.

·         We are open to evaluating the need for a full or part-time assistant.

·         Must be willing to work a flexible schedule – the position would be year round, full time. Some months are busier than others depending on the NBA season schedule as well as pre-draft preparation, summer league etc.

·         May be asked to participate in various community outreach programs and charitable endeavors on behalf of the Utah Jazz.

Required Skills:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Dietetics, Health Science, or related field.

·         A minimum of 4 years of experience as an Executive Chef.

·         Two or more years of sports-based culinary nutrition experience with professional athletes.

·         Exceptional organizational, as well as written and verbal communication skills.

·         Experience managing others and multiple projects at once.

·         Creative problem-solver who brings passion, enthusiasm and fresh ideas.

·         Proven track record of being organized, dependable and self-motivated.

  • Team builder and ability to successfully manage and develop a team.
  • Able to work independently and have the capacity to manage up and down.
  • Ability to work 60 + hours per week (as needed).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including days, evening, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be experienced with computers; to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), Outlook, E-mail and the Internet.
