Player/Basketball Operations: Statistics
Basketball Information Systems - Back end Developer - San Antonio Spurs (San Antonio, Tx)

An experienced software engineer who will contribute to the implementation of a basketball information system back end. This position will be responsible for building out server-side services that supply data to a basketball information system web front end. In addition, they will also be responsible for helping to manage and administer a Microsoft SQL Server database, which houses the information that the backend services provide access to. They should be familiar with the software development life cycle, including design, implementation, maintenance, and support.

This position will work as a part of the Basketball Operations Analytics department, and will collaborate with the entire group, including the VP of Strategic Research, Director of Basketball Analytics, and Director of Basketball Information Systems.

Responsibilities: 

  • Build backend software services that enable the development of user-friendly software tools for use by the Basketball Operations staff.
  • Contribute to the management and administration of a Microsoft SQL database server including periodic maintenance tasks, and ad hoc batch data entry/extracts on large volumes of basketball-related data as requests arise.
  • Help manage third party vendors providing technological resources and/or data feeds to the Basketball Operations department, along with various technologies (analytical programs, systems, and resources) utilized by the department, both independent or associated with vendors.
  • Proactively maintain and support the basketball information system infrastructure.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field with focus on computer programming
  • Strong server side web development skills and experience working with a MVC framework
  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server programming and administration skills along with an understanding of database design and data collection methodology, including the underlying relational and dimensional data models
  • Experience working with Java, or with other object oriented programming language
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks
  • Strong organizational skills, with a robust attention to detail, in regards both to checking and working with data, as well as visual presentation of deliverables and reports
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work with and communicate with people from all departments and at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to handle high pressure situations while still being attentive to the detail and excellent work product required
  • Familiarity with automation systems such as Jenkins is a plus
  • Familiarity with SAS software stack, especially SAS server deployment, SAS Metadata Server, and SAS Enterprise Guide, is a plus
  • Knowledge of advanced basketball statistics, and knowledge of common basketball statistical resources, both public and proprietary is a plus
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive/confidential situations and information
  • A working knowledge of the NBA, and the NBA rules & regulations, is a plus
  • Stand/Sit/Walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs

This will have a specific focus on mobile design, as well as cross-platform usability across multiple devices and browsers. They should be familiar with the software development life cycle, including design, implementation, maintenance, and support.

This position will work as a part of the Basketball Operations Analytics department, and will collaborate with the entire group, including the VP of Strategic Research, Director of Basketball Analytics, and Director of Basketball Information Systems.

  • Experience designing and building responsive web apps that function efficiently across multiple devices

Facility Operations/Security: Security
Director of Security - Spurs Sports & Entertainment (San Antonio, TX)

Overview

Provides leadership direction for in-house security and contracted staff (parking, medical, local and federal agencies) in all phases of building/event security, parking, risk management, and life safety for the AT&T Center and surrounding grounds, Toyota Field and Spurs Practice Facility.  This position is responsible for the oversight of planning, organizing, and directing security/parking team members in the performance of all necessary job functions for events at the facilities with minimal supervision, guidance, or instruction.  Position requires detailed budgeting, forecasting, long term strategic planning, and is responsible for managing the department operating budget within company guidelines.  Direct reports include (5) full time staff and over (150) part time staff.

Responsibilities

  • As the security liaison, provide leadership while interacting with external clients and officials to ensure the venue is well prepared and compliate from a security, safety, and parking aspect, to include sports league officials. Develop and maintain close working relationships with local Police, Sheriff and Fire Departments, and other local, state, and federal authorities. Manage the oversight of security and parking operations for the facilities which includes but is not limited to; 24-hour security, event security, parking, and contracted partners.
  • Responsible for collaborating with Building Operations, Legal/Risk Management, Service Innovation, Human Resources, and other internal departments to ensure accountability for up-to-date safety standards for the building and compliance of all applicable regulations.
  • Ensure the facility Emergency Management Plan is kept current along with all compliance measures and/or certifications are consistent with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. Consistently maintain and develop training programs and compliance to include emergency evacuation, bomb threats, terroristic threats, active shooter, etc. as it applies to event and non-event day needs.
  • Provide effective leadership consistent with our culture and SS&E Values regarding the security planning and management for all events at the facilities. Serve, motivate, and train all staff, in order to create and maintain a positive work environment. Develop and empower supervisory teams to lead, coach, mentor, and discipline personnel as necessary.
  • Research, develop and implement policies and procedures around staff and event safety requirements that align with SS&E Values. Safety and Security policies should remain up to date and staff should be knowledgeable on how to properly execute the program initiatives. The Security Director is responsible for training staff as well as ensuring the programs put in place remain relative to the event, arena, and applicable laws.
  • Prepare and manage annual operational budget as well as invoice review and approval.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or a similar field.
  • 10+ years’ experience in criminal justice, law enforcement or a similar field.
  • 5+ years of management experience involving special event and public assembly facility security personnel both full time and part time.
  • 5+ years’ experience working with CCTV, access control systems, radio communication systems, fire alarm panels, and parking control systems.
  • Must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work long hours, including overnights, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • 5+ years conflict management experience, including ability to deescalate situations and enhance customer experience.
  • Must be able to complete projects and resolve issues expeditiously, independently, and with minimal supervision; must be able to show initiative and good judgment.
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized with an ability to simultaneously handle multiple tasks and adapt to change.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications, to include outlook, word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Some travel is required.
  • Certified in CPR and other emergency/life saving techniques preferred.

Facility Operations/Security: Facility/Venue Management
Security Manager - Spurs Sports & Entertainment (San Antonio, TX)

Overview:

The Security Manager is responsible for the management of the day to day security, event security and emergency preparedness and response protocols for the AT&T Center and Toyota Field, as well as assigned site responsibilities. This position is responsible for the planning and implantation of security for emergency preparedness protocols, dark days, and events at the AT&T Center and Toyota Field. Additionally, this position will develop and manage an affective training program for Part-Time Building and Event Security Leads and Part-Time Security Staff to ensure their development meets or exceeds industry standards.


The Security Manager will have the needed background to support the management of the building and event security staff, to include but not limited to a background in public venue security, emergency management experience, law enforcement or the military. This manager will be expected to have strong verbal and written communication skills with the responsibility to communicate at all levels in an appropriate manner. Lastly, this position will liaison with law enforcement as needed to ensure both venue and public safety guidelines are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee event security operations for 100 + events per year.

  • Source, hire, develop and manage a part time security staff of 150. Ensure security staff is an effective team supplied to best support strategic goals while maintaining the highest of industry standards applying to public safety and crowd control.

  • Manage staff and event escalated responses and emergency situations.

  • Manage and maintain all departmental projects and financial records, prepare an annual operational budget and maintain that throughout the year. Responsible for being organized and having his/her staff prepared in all aspects of venue security, this must be flexible and available as needed to support the needs of each event.

  • Interface and collaborate with numerous external clients and officials to ensure the venue is well prepared, to include sports league officials, law enforcement, local emergency responders, federal agencies, and others as needed to maintain the highest of standards.

  • Research, develop, and implement policies and procedures around staff and event safety requirements that are in alignment with our company values. Safety and Security policies should remain up to date and staff should be knowledgeable on how to properly execute the program initiatives. The Security Manager is responsible for training staff as well as ensuring that programs put in place remain relative to the event, arena, and applicable laws.

  • Train, develop, and recognize event security staff for proper program execution. The Security Manager is responsible for collaborating with the Senior Manager of Security and Parking and building operations teams to keep the safety standards for the building up to date and within compliance of all applicable regulations.

  • Lead and direct Building Security, medical services, fire marshal, law enforcement, and report writers to ensure the protection of the arena, team and assets.

  • Serve as manager on duty for Building and Event Security Officers while conducting employee evaluations for all officers on the shift to include: Security Leads, Security Supervisors and Security Officers.

  • Assists in the development, implementation and management of the company’s risk assessment, and execution of emergency preparedness protocols and to maintain appropriate documentation for all areas of operation.

  • Creates and directs safety and security trainings focusing on OSHA compliance, life safety, leadership and on-going training for internal staff, partner staff and external guests

  • Collaborate with management and public safety officials to develop training programs, employee safety presentations, practical exercises and tabletop to ensure that our operating procedures are provided for internal and external guests

  • Perform quality control audits throughout the arena in public and restricted areas in order to identify security vulnerabilities and potential safety concerns. Develop after action reports and operating procedures to address any areas identified from quality control audits.  

  • Maintain industry standards for asset protection, access control systems, CCTV and other facility security policies and procedures designed to enhance the security and safety for the arena and organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Advanced Degree in a related field, or related equivalent experience.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years supervisory, management and/or leadership experience.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years security experience.

  • A valid Texas State driver license is required.

  • Must be able to obtain a Texas Security License, level II or higher (This is required while in position).

  • Must have knowledge in the field of alarms, CCTV and access control systems.

  • Must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work long hours, including overnights, evenings, weekends and holidays. This is an Event based position. Reliability is strongly measured.

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with diverse staff, tenacious work ethnic and strong, written communication skills.

  • An above average knowledge of computer programs and software, such as Microsoft Office.

  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized with an ability to simultaneously handle multiple tasks and adapt to change.

  • Must be able to complete projects and resolve issues expeditiously, independently and with minimal supervision; must be able to show initiative and good judgment.

Essential functions:

  • Must be 18 years of age at time of hire.

  • Must be able to clear an extensive background screening.

  • Must be able to lift, pull, push and/or carry 25 pounds as necessary.

  • Must have the ability to walk and stand for long periods of time, and navigate through stairways during a standard shift.

  • Must have the physical ability to patrol both inside and outside of the AT&T Center and Toyota Field during all seasons of the year and possible extreme weather conditions

Preferred Experience:

  • 3-5 five years experience in a leadership role as a security manager, preferably in a sports and entertainment industry preferred.
  • Previous experience in Law enforcement, Venue security management or the military is preferred.
  • CPR Certification (This is required while in position)
  • Knowledge of Basic First Aid preferred.
  • The ability to show a track record of personal development. Experience in the management and development of a large workforce.
