Media Monitoring Assistant - Minnesota Timberwolves (Minneapolis, MN)

Summary/Objective
This position assists members of the Public Relations department. The position will work on the day-to-day operations, strategies and objectives of the department. This individual will track the team's media monitoring coverage, with an emphasis on basketball, business and marketing-related team news. The candidate will work closely with the team's media monitoring company and various local and national media outlets. The individual in this role will also be asked to assist with other special projects and game-related activities as needed. The job may include some weekend work.

Essential Functions

1. Oversee the team's media monitoring coverage with an emphasis on basketball, business and marketing-related team news.
2. Serve as the day-to-day contact for team's media monitoring company.
3. Compile daily, weekly, monthly and end-of-season media coverage reports.
4. Amass information for detailed event-specific media coverage reports.
5. Manage team news clipping system.
6. Work with Partnership Sales and Activation team to gather media coverage on corporate events.
7. Assist Public Relations Associate on various game day and game-related duties.
8. Assist with game-day in-arena set up and take down.

Work Environment
Staff may be required to work Timberwolves home games, in addition to external events including but not limited to: charity and networking events. Work is generally sedentary in nature. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within a sports arena, which includes bleachers/steps.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee frequently is required to remain in a stationary position, and may operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer and telephone. Staff will frequently ascend and descend bleachers/steps and traverse around the arena. Staff may occasionally move boxes or equipment weighing up to 15 pounds.

Travel
Position may require some travel to meet media members, disperse packets to opposing teams, and escorting players to external events.

Public Relations Associate - Minnesota Timberwolves (Minneapolis, MN)

The Minnesota Timberwolves 2014-2015 season is right around the corner! At this time we are seeking a passionate, dedicated communications professional to join us for the season as a Public Relations Associate. This person will work closely with our entire Public Relations team, including our Vice President of Communications, getting hands on experience working with local media, issuing in-game updates and compiling statistics! 

Department: Public Relations
Reports to: Public Relations Coordinator
Position Type: Full Time/Non Exempt/Seasonal
 

Summary/Objective
This position assists members of the Public Relations department. The candidate will work very closely on the day-to-day operations, strategies and objectives of the department. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following: Credentialing media members, compiling and delivering media packets, working with the NBA's stats system, updating the department's Media Center website on a daily basis, issuing in-game tweets from the Timberwolves Public Relations official twitter handle and during other events as needed, occasional writing (press releases, Wolves publications, etc.), compiling statistics and distributing the department's weekly email newsletter, assisting the media on game nights, game night set up and takedown (media room and press row), transcribing quotes on game nights and distributing them to the media, pitching stories and developing mini pr campaigns surrounding team events. Attendance at all Timberwolves home games is required and the job includes some weekend work.

Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these essential functions:
1. Assist in the tracking, evaluation and organizing of the team’s media coverage through its media monitoring system.
2. Help manage the team’s newspaper clipping system, including monitoring and recording all local media coverage.
3. Produce and deliver visiting team media packets.
4. Work with the NBA's stats system, compile stats and distribute team's weekly email newsletter (Weekly Howl).
5. Write press releases, Timberwolves Postseason Guide, and update the team’s media website on a daily basis.
6. Create and provide media with credentials, as well as provide media and teams with statistical and press content.
7. Participate in Timberwolves game-day in-arena media setup and take down. Assist with game-night media hospitality.
8. Assist with any postgame events that may occur during Timberwolves home games.
9. Transcribe quotes on game nights and distribute to the media.
10. Occasionally attend practice, shoot-around to assist with media interview requests.
11. Occasionally attend appearances with players, coaches and staff (to media venues and in the community).
