POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

This individual’s primary objective is to develop and implement strategic communications plans to promote the Minnesota Lynx and its players while serving as the main day-to-day media contact for the team. This role also includes work within the Timberwolves communications department on a seasonal basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Serve as primary Lynx basketball communications media contact (both home and on the road), overseeing all media availability during practice, games, and shootarounds, fulfilling all team local and national interview requests while enhancing image of the team and its players through external and internal television, radio, and digital platforms.
  2. Oversee all Lynx game-day duties, including the production and distribution of credentials, game notes, media seating charts and in-game and postgame notes and quotes.
  3. Travel with the team to all preseason, regular season and postseason road games; manage all the team media on the road.
  4. Provide consistent and effective communication to Lynx players and coaches to execute interview requests; prepare proper team messaging and notification of interviews and team events as necessary.
  5. Develop potential story ideas and proactive media pitching incorporating Lynx players, coaches, and basketball staff to various local and national media outlets.
  6. Collaborate with internal department leaders to creatively and effectively market the Lynx through the development & execution of events and/or stories aligning with the organization’s strategic direction.
  7. Write all team press releases, including but not limited to player transactions and media advisories.
  8. Spearhead all Lynx press conferences, including equipment and photographer setup, communication with local media and preparation of coaches and players.
  9. Monitor social media presence of Lynx players, coaches, and media members to ensure appropriate messaging.
  10. Assist the Timberwolves communications department in various capacities during the season as needed.
