Media Relations Intern - Austin Toros (Austin, TX)

Position Summary

Media Relations interns have the opportunity to see the business side of sports marketing first hand for the Austin Toros. The Austin Toros are a part of the NBA Development League, the NBA’s minor league system. The Austin Toros are directly affiliated, owned, and operated by the San Antonio Spurs. Interns have the opportunity to work directly with the Austin Toros, dealing with various aspects of the day to day operation of the Team, such as public relations, community events, game nights and general office duties. Internships are paid positions (minimum wage), but are not guaranteed employment once the internship is completed.

  • Assist Media Relations Manager with public relations duties
    • Example – Survey and research trends in the sports industry
    • Example – Assist with efforts to increase awareness of the Austin Toros brand and image
    • Example – Manage and update list of Austin media outlets
    • Example- Develop copy for press releases and media guides
    • Example- Manage Austin Toros social media sites such as, but not limited to Facebook and Twitter
    • Example- Assist with website updates and maintenance
    • Example- Assist with game day media responsibilities. Attendance at ALL home games is mandatory.
  • Attending and assisting with set up of select community events.
    • Example- Attend and assist with set up of community events
    • Example- Coordinate participation in community events with non-profits, schools and other youth and sports organizations
  • Assist with general office duties
    • Example- Assisting with duties such as mailings and filings
    • Example- Management of computer database
    • Example- Answering phones and directing calls when in the office

Mimimum Qualifications

  • Must be available to work September 2014- April 30, 2015 in the office and at all games
  • Must be a junior or senior in a 4-year College, recent graduate or enrolled in a related graduate program
  • Must be able carry/move/handle 25 pounds boxes
  • Self-starter, pro-active, highly motivated
  • Has the ability to work efficiently and in a timely manner in order to meet strict deadlines
  • Has a commitment to excellence
  • Is outgoing, resourceful and able to work with a diverse working environment
  • Is flexible with schedule; willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays, pending events schedule
  • Has a reliable form of transportation

Internships: Player Operations
Operations Intern - Austin Toros (Austin, TX)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Operations interns have the opportunity to see the business side of sports marketing first hand for the Austin Toros. The Austin Toros are a part of the NBA Development League, the NBA’s minor league system. The Austin Toros are directly affiliated, owned, and operated by the San Antonio Spurs. Interns have the opportunity to work directly with the Austin Toros, dealing with various aspects of the day to day operation of the Team, such as marketing, community events, game nights and general office duties. Operations interns are involved with the creative side as well, participating in brainstorming sessions and meetings where promotional ideas are discussed.

Key AREAS of Responsibility, Job Metrics and Competencies:

  • AssistGame Operations department with game night duties
    • Example – Set-up of table locations, signage, handouts, etc. and Tear down after the game
    • Example – Implementation of on-court promotions
    • Example – Coordinate event logistics for national anthem and color guard participants as well as group performances
    • Example- Assisting the Mascot and Dance Team
    • Example- Supervising the Kid’s Zone
  • Assist the Business Operations department with basic financial responsibilities
    • Assist with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable data entry
    • Organization of financial information
    • Filing, copying and scanning of financial records
    • Assist with monthly credit card reports
    • Assist with monthly cash deposits and associated reports
  • Attending and assisting with set up of select community events.
    • Example- Distributing information and selling the Toros to people in attendance
    • Example- Assisting the Toros mascot at events
  • Assisting the Marketing department with marketing duties
    • Example- Update marketing information including examples of all advertising pieces and contact information
    • Example- Work with Operations Manager on developing radio spots and print materials
    • Example- Research creative new marketing and promotional ideas
    • Example- Develop and execute promotional theme nights
  • Assist with general office duties
    • Example- Assisting with duties such as mailings and filings
    • Example- Management of computer database
    • Example- Answering phones and directing calls when in the office

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be available to work September 2014- April 30, 2015 in the office and at all games
  • Must be a junior or senior in a 4-year College, recent graduate or enrolled in a related graduate program
  • Must be able carry/move/handle 25 pounds boxes
