Technical Services: Production
Color Analyst - Wisconsin Herd (Oshkosh, WI)

Job Requirements & Responsibilities

Color commentators need an encyclopedic knowledge of the game. Most are former athletes or coaches who have an in-depth understanding of the players and the game they are covering. Having played or coached the game gives a color commentator the ability to point out specific details about action that has just occurred to help the audience appreciate the athleticism or strategy involved.

The play-by-play announcer does the lion's share of the broadcast commentary in most sports, but a good color commentator should make regular interjections and occasional longer asides to make the broadcast interactive and conversational. The color commentator is also responsible for keeping track of individual player and game statistics, so she can discuss trends in the game and point out contributions made by specific players.

  • 2+ years of experience with broadcasting games.

  • Providing Play by Play/color commentary during games

  • Working with play-by-play announcer

  • Extensive knowledge of basketball

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
