Spring Internship - Maine Red Claws (Portland, ME)
 

Description
The Maine Red Claws are offering Spring internships for 2010 that will provide a great learning experience for everyone. We are offering positions in an array of areas including sales, marketing, operations & public relations. Our internships present a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of a professional sports team in the NBA Development League.

Available Positions:

Sales and Marketing:
Duties- The duties and responsibilities of this internship entail, but are not limited to distributing marketing collateral pieces throughout the marketplace, maintaining databases, assisting ticket operations with ticket packaging, coordinating group mailing campaigns and assisting with various game night promotions and other events. This may include assisting at ticket information tables. Also one may be required to assist with some appearances handing out flyers and assisting with player autograph sessions. May also be asked to appear at event(s) as mascot.

Qualifications-
- 3rd or 4th year college student
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Must be for school credit

This is a non-paid position

Operations Intern:
Duties- The duties of the Operations intern may include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting with game day preparation responsibilities
• Assisting with daily office tasks
• Preparing in-game responsibilities
• Game-night stats and in-game stats are available for media
• Post-game tasks are taken care of
• Attend public events and represent company (May be asked to appear at events as mascot)
• General office duties
• Other duties that are assigned
 

Qualifications-
- 3rd or 4th year college student
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Must be for school credit

Public Relations/Community Relations Interns:

The duties of the PR/CR interns may include, but are not limited to:

Public Relations:
• Assist with game day responsibilities including:
o Writing, preparation and distribution of game notes and program inserts
• Assist with game night responsibilities including:
o Press box and room set-up and maintenance pre, during and post-game
o Distribution of statistics and other materials
o Assisting media with any needs that arise
o Post-game web update
• Writing of game stories for program and web
• Proofreading of all written material, including press releases, game programs, game notes, web materials, etc.
• Maintenance of clip file and distribution of daily clips to Red Claws management and staff
• Maintenance of player and team files
• General office duties and other duties as assigned by Director of Public Relations and Community Relations (may be asked to appear as mascot)

Community Relations:
• Assist with regularly scheduled player autograph sessions
• Assist with fulfillment of charitable donation requests
• Accompany players, mascot and/or dancers to appearances
• Maintenance of community files
• Assist with planning, implementation and staffing of charitable events
• General office duties and other duties as assigned by Director of Public Relations and Community Relations (may be asked to appear as mascot)

Qualifications-
• 3rd or 4th year college student; must be for school credit
• Journalism, Sport Management, Public Relations, Communications or related major preferred
• Desire to work in public or community relations in professional sports
• Strong writing skills
• Strong knowledge and/or love of basketball
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; HTML knowledge very helpful
• Ability to work at a fast pace
• Strong sense of discretion and professional attitude
• Flexible schedule including game nights and some days
• Must have access to a car with a clean driving record
