Spring 2010 Course Credit Internship Program - Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Thrashers and Philips Arena (Atlanta, GA)
Is the professional sports industry in your future career path? Here’s your chance to experience it first hand while interning at a dynamic organization. Atlanta Spirit, LLC is the home of the Atlanta Hawks (NBA), Atlanta Thrashers (NHL) and world-class entertainment venue, Philips Arena. We are looking for passionate team players to participate in our Spring 2010 course credit internship program. This program is designed to give top students real-life experience in the sports and entertainment industry in addition to providing educational and networking opportunities.
PROGRAM GUIDELINES:
• We are now accepting applications for the Spring 2010 term (January-May)
• Course Credit Internships are open to college students only (junior, senior, or graduate level)
• Interns must receive academic credit toward graduation (students are responsible for providing documentation toward receiving academic credit for the internship)
• No financial compensation is available
• Interns are responsible for travel and housing arrangements
• Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required
• Minimum of 12 weeks is required
• Full-time and part-time opportunities are available
• Interns must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7
INTERNSHIP DEPARTMENT OVERVIEWS:
Group Sales Intern (Full-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Execute the fulfillment of our Atlanta Hawks 3.0 Student Club and Atlanta Thrashers Honor Roll program
• Assist with back-end execution of PA Insider - our corporate ticket program that serves over 1000 companies
• Develop, promote, and sell a group theme night for the 2009-2010 seasons under the direction of the Manager of Group Sales
• Assist sales executives at sales events with prospecting for new business and overall sales
• Research trends around the NBA, NHL and other professional sports leagues
• Assist with the management and growth of the group sales database
• Assist sales staff with clerical duties and direct mail
• Assist in staffing various game day events
• Assist in the execution of company wide corporate ticket sales program
Qualifications:
• Marketing, Sports Administration, Communications or related business majors preferred
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment, meet deadlines, and pay close attention to detail
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point required

Season Ticket & Inside Sales Account Development Intern (Part-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Create master overview for Inside Sales department that monitors and reports seasonal ticket sales
• Manage and update sales records using Archtics ticketing system
• Coordinate and distribute ticket fulfillment between season sales and operations departments
• Administer season ticket marketing collateral
• Develop and manage New Season Ticket Sales executives work schedules
• Record internal sales data to be applied toward incentives, promotions and events
• Help with other departmental projects as needed
Qualifications:
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products
• Must have the ability to work non-traditional hours including evenings, weekends, and some holidays
• Ability to multi-task

Premium & Guest Services Intern (Full-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Work events as a Manager-On-Duty, assisting with the overall management of the Customer Services event staff
• Assist in management and administration of Atlanta Spirit-wide event staff recognition and appreciation programs
• Process and manage payroll entry and tracking
• Create and oversee the distribution of event staff video scrolls and newsletters
• Perform collection, data entry, distribution, and tracking of guest survey and employee end-of-season survey information
• Perform Lost and Found tracking and project support
• Prepare event operations preparation materials prior to each event, including briefing sheets
• Provide administrative duties in support of daily tasks, customer service projects and as needed
Qualifications:
• Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Corporate Partnerships Service Intern (Full-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Assist with game night activities in the client suite or in the game operations work areas
• Oversee promotional placement and spot checks in the marketplace
• Act as secret shopper with market-wide promotions
• Assist with special events such as bowling event, golf tournaments, skating event, etc
• Assist service team with special needs/projects
• Work with other departments to aid in the development/execution of partner programs such as Gatorade Coach’s Clinic, Read to Achieve programs, etc.
Qualifications:
• Ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines
• Ability to give great attention to details in planning and follow-up with end of the project wrap-ups
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently or as a team on given projects
• Ability to interact with different levels of management and members and partners of the organization

Community Development Intern (Full-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Help execute the Hawks and Thrashers School Assembly Program, including booking talent, coordinating logistics with schools and serving as on-site contact
• Assist with game-night responsibilities such as the 50/50 raffle, silent auctions and on-court presentations
• Assist with Hawks and Thrashers Foundations fundraising events, including soliciting silent auction items, conducting research, and assisting with event set-up and execution
• Assist with Student Achiever Program
• Work with Community Development Assistant on Charitable Donations, including entering requests into database and sending items to non-profit groups
• Work with Community Development Coordinator on Player Ticket Program, including scheduling non-profit groups and distributing player tickets
Qualifications:
• Ability to multi-task
• Outstanding personality and able to work with a wide variety of individuals
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Proficient in MS Access, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• General knowledge of the sport of ice hockey and basketball preferred

Retail Intern (Full-time and/or Part-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Assist the store manager and assistant manager with daily responsibilities, preparations for game time and staff supervision during games
• Re-merchandise sales floors of 6 retail locations
• Generate daily sales reports, analyze sales data and report data to Accounting
• Maintain inventories
• Handle customer purchases and perform discounts during games
• Process payroll for part-time employees
Qualifications:
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Ability to provide excellent customer service and respond quickly and professionally to event-related problems or guest concerns
• Eagerness to learn
• Must be detail oriented

Video Production Intern (Part-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Assist in producing live events at Philips Arena for the Atlanta Thrashers, Atlanta Hawks and other shows at the Arena
• Compile and log game tapes and highlight meltdown reels
• Make dubs
• Program and operate arena matrix boards
• Assist Avid editors with clip digitizing and editing
• Various Camera Utility tasks
• Assist with field shoots including set-up, lighting and teleprompter operation
• Assist with PA audio setups
• Other production related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Interested in a career in television and live video production; coursework, previous experience and understanding of equipment helpful
• Must exhibit an eagerness to learn
• Must be an effective communicator
• Creative, efficient and ability to follow directions

Building & Event Operations Intern – Philips Arena (Full-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Perform duties associated with the coordination and operation of Arena events
• Source and order materials for both the arena & incoming productions
• Track work orders in track-it system
• Administer Aware Manager Event system and disseminate pertinent information to the department(s) for fulfillment
• Communication with internal departments and external vendors as necessary
• Perform administrative duties regarding the completion of various forms and reports
• Other administrative & operational duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Facility management knowledge preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products
• Extremely organized with strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must be reliable and have the ability to work a flexible schedule to include long hours, nights, weekends & holidays when required

Game Operations Intern – Atlanta Hawks (Full-time)
Game Operations Intern – Atlanta Thrashers (Full-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Assist with creating and packaging entertainment content for Hawks and Thrashers in-game promotions, contests and video vignettes
• Update music and movie clip library
• Book anthem singers
• Learn and participate in the technical positions on game nights
• Manage give-away merchandise for games
• Assist in script writing and progress to write scripts for games
• Learn to stage manage and coordinate dance team, ice squad and interactive teams
Qualifications:
• Production, broadcast, theatrical or art background preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Excellent writing skills
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Must be an effective communicator
• Ideal candidate should have a genuine interest in game operations, broadcasting or a related field

Hawks Media Relations Intern (Part-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Service the media through e-mails and phone calls
• Compile Hawks clips from various media sources to provide to visiting media members
• Prepare press credentials for visiting media members, and deliver credentials and press packets to area hotels
• Answer fan mail
Qualifications:
• Experience working in a sports media relations department or college sports information department preferred
• Knowledge of the sport of basketball, the NBA and its players
• Strong written communication and people skills
• Must demonstrate a willingness to learn
• Proficient in MS Office

Creative Services/Graphic Design Intern (Part-time)
Responsibilities/Duties:
• Assist with the creative development of the Hawks and Thrashers campaigns
• Assist with the creative development of the teams printed collateral for 2009-2010 initiative
• Adhere to the teams branding guidelines as communicated by Company
• Work with internal clients and vendors to design marketing pieces and troubleshoot any issues that may arise
• Support the Creative Service Department with special projects as needed
• Help maintain archival media and sample libraries
Qualifications:
• Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator required
• Strong design and organizational skills necessary
• General knowledge of the sport of ice hockey and basketball preferred
• Must exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must possess an eagerness to learn and ability to multi-task
• Must be a creative problem solver and have the ability to follow directions
• A portfolio outlining print and web work preferred

Finance and Accounting Intern (Full-time)
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Provide support to the Finance and Accounting department by obtaining and organizing supporting documents in preparation for audit work and the creation of league reports
• Work with managers and staff to organize digital directories and files
• Assist with the new fiscal year start-up by changing over physical files
• Support departmental projects (e.g., tax return preparation) and document processes

• Basic accounting processes knowledge
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Strong desire to improve processes
